Gedung Agung is one of the historic building which is located on Malioboro street to the south. The main building complex Court Building was built in May 1824 with the initiative Anthony Hendriks Smissaerat, a Dutch Resident (1823-1825) with A. Payen as architects. The first goal of this Court is the building as a residence for the resident of the Netherlands.
Building Court itself had come apart on 10 June 1867 due to the earthquake, and then to wake up in the back and finished in the year 1869, and at this time in the main building complex is known as the State Building.
On 6 January 1946, Building a Great Palace of the Republic of Indonesia, is made in line with Yogyakarta as the capital of the Republic of Indonesia, as well as make the building as a place to stay Great President Soekarno and the whole family. Meanwhile, Vice President Mohammad Hatta living in the building which is located in the north Gedung Agung.
Gedung Agung is currently working as a stay and Vice President if the President was in Yogyakarta, besides several other buildings in the complex is also used as a place to stay of the guest country. In addition, Court Building was also used as a place to commemorate the Proclamation of Independence (since 17 August 1991) and Sunset Parade is held every 17 (starting on 17 April 1988).
Complex of buildings in the Court building itself consists of several buildings, namely building Court Building itself, Wisma Negara, Wisma Indraphrasta, Wisma Sawojajar, Wisma Bumiretawu, and Wisma Saptapratala. From the first until now there is no change in the form of a building on the main building (Gedung Agung). In the main building there is a space which is called the main room with a Garuda official work as a space to welcome the guests and the country other special guests.
